Giant Retinal Tear Retinal Detachment Etiologies, Surgical Outcome and Incidence of Recurrent Retinal Detachment after Silicon Oil Removal
نویسنده
چکیده
A Giant Retinal Tear (GRT) is defined as a full-thickness retinal break extending circumferentially for 3 clock hours (90°) in the presence of a posteriorly detached vitreous [1]. GRTs are rare; their incidence has not been well established in the literature. The true incidence of GRTs is difficult to assess given their rarity, but one recent study estimates 0.094 per 100,000 of the general population per year [2].

OUTPATIENT RETINAL DETACHMENT SURGERY: A PRELIMINARY REPORT
Retinal detachment surgery has been considered an inpatient hospital procedure requiring preoperative and postoperative hospitalization. In this pilot study, outpatient retinal detachment surgery was performed on sixteen patients and the results (100% success rate after an average follow-up of 8.3 months) were comparable or better than reported overall success rates for retinal detachment ...
متن کاملEarly vitrectomy for dense vitreous hemorrhage in adults with non-traumatic and non-diabetic retinopathy
Objective To evaluate the etiologies for dense vitreous hemorrhage in adults with non-traumatic and reveal management of early vitrectomy for the disease. Methods Study included 105 eyes from 105 patients. Outcome measures were etiologies of vitreous hemorrhage, formation of retinal and/or disk neovascular membrane (NVM), incidence of retinal tear and detachment, visual acuity (VA) and postoper...
متن کاملThe outcome of surgical management for giant retinal tear more than 180°
BACKGROUND To evaluate the surgical outcome for management of giant retinal tear (GRT) more than 180° by combined pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), encircling scleral buckle, 360° Laser endophotocoagulation, and silicon oil tamponade. METHODS This was a Prospective, interventional case series study. Twenty four eyes of 23 patients suffering from GRT more than 180° underwent PPV combined with encir...
متن کاملDelayed presentation of emulsified subretinal silicone oil appearing as an inverse macular pseudohypopyon.
T he use of silicone oil is well established in complex retinal detachment surgery, and it is still the most frequently used internal tamponade in the management of giant retinal tear. The common complications associated with silicone oil have been extensively described. Subretinal silicone oil is an infrequent but serious complication. The delayed presentation of subretinal silicone oil is unc...
متن کاملBilateral Giant Retinal Tear and Sequential Vitrectomy
PURPOSE To describe the excellent outcome of surgery for bilateral giant retinal tears (GRTs) with better options of endotamponade. METHODS This is a case report of a 62-year-old man who presented with bilateral GRTs and associated retinal detachment. The tear in the right eye was supero-temporal and silicone oil was used as an endotamponade. The tear in the left eye was infero-temporal and p...
